Excellent news! I think this is a banner year for Osoberry; I have it popping up all over the place. Alas, the areas where I cleared blackberry seem to only harbor stinging nettle and snowberry. Yeah, I know nettle is another important host plant, but I'd love a swath of bleeding hearts!
haha! Nettle is one of the plants I'm just starting to create big swaths of. As you said they are a super important host plant, but I actually find them to be a rather tasty vegetable come late winter/early spring. Snip the tops (let the rest of the plant regrow) and steam/saute - they are one of the very best tasting greens IMO!
