One Green World! Mine has a mild kale flavor. We just put it into soup or stir fry and we can barely notice the flavor. Adding nutrients to the dish is all we care about for this vegetable.
Oh, that may have been the difference. I usually like my kale sauteed and plain with olive oil or butter and salt. I believe I purchased mine from OGW as well.
We are very successful with both asparagus and artichokes. Grown in raised beds for multiple years. We really enjoy our raised beds, they are about 2 1/2 feet high, juniper sides which is very long lasting, they will outlive us! I find that Swiss chard and various kale often overwinters. Also fava beans will reseed and the tender green tips are delicious.
Any idea which kind of artichoke you're growing? I'm trialing Tavor from Johnny's this year. It is unhappy in its pot, even though I only started it mid-january, it is yelling at me to be put in the ground. The cold nights worry me, I'm not sure how cold-tolerant young plants are. And yes, those biennials are awesome they just keep going and going!!
I love the taste of my sea kale! You might have had a bad strain.
I might have! Do you recall where you got yours?

We think they are Green Globe from Territorial Seed. We started the seed in the greenhouse in 2018 in either January or February.
Thanks so much for your input!
Lovage is used in many traditional Romanian soup. We love it but soup is pretty much the only dish we use it in.
I love soups for their ease of freezing! Are there any particular kinds of soup you'd recommend? I'll have to give it a shot. :)
You will not be disappointed but you need to use a translation service :)
Lovage is an acquired taste for sure.
